Carbon Gardner is a global citizen science project that aims to accelerate enhanced rock weathering field research through team-based volunteer experimentation and reporting at schools, universities, and other sites all over the world. Student and volunteer teams sign up to create simple raised beds that include rock dust treated sampling areas, and complete regular tests to measure how much carbon is being sequestered following rigorous protocols developed by leading scientists.

Project Cyan is a DIY small-scale open hardware direct air carbon capture system! This system uses abundant minerals to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) directly from the atmosphere and turn it into solid mineral products. Students are able to construct and deploy the direct air carbon capture system, analyze the mineralized product, collect data, and start to conceptualize individual, corporate, and country carbon footprints. Project Cyan has the foremost purpose of being an educational experience for young people to engage with climate change solutions and specifically investigate the value chain of capturing carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere.

Project Violet is a DIY, open-source direct air carbon capture prototype machine. Inspired by Dr. Tao Wang at Zhejiang University, Project Violet collected carbon dioxide (CO2) directly from the atmospheric air by passing the air over a sorbent membrane. Once the membrane is saturated and can no longer capture additional CO2, it is regenerated using a moisture swing method, exposing it to moisture to drive off the CO2 in a controlled manner, where it can be secured for transportation and storage. In the case of prototype machine, the CO2 will be re-released back to the atmosphere, but there is are many opportunities to improve the Project Violet design to increase the efficiency and performance of Project Violet!

Epiphyte is a miniature, stand-alone, open source direct air capture machine that was designed by a small group of OpenAir members, located all over North America, in 2023. The design drew significant inspiration from an original prototype developed by a team young engineers at Octavia Carbon in Nairobi Kenya. Epiphyte is led by a team of volunteers with decades of combined professional electrical, mechanical and chemical engineering and design experience.
